Our first time here. Great campground, very quiet and relaxing. Close to a lot of attractions (Casinos, Essex railroad, Mystic Village). Owners live on site and are eager to help. You can't bring your own firewood because of insect problems (state rule) but they have dry hardwood firewood sold by the cart full for $6.00 which will last you a few days. We will come back here again
Came here for our first family camping get together. Not a bad campground, has everything you would want, nice pool, clean bathrooms, nice game room. Some of the campsites were small. Campground gets muddy real quick with any rain. If you are looking for a quiet campground to relax, this is not the place. Lots of kids having a great time and "kid loud". Quiet hours not reaLly enforced. Some guy came in about midnight with his generator running, he must have woken up most of the campers. People in and out all night long. We will however come back here next year for the second family reunion.
Ok campground to stay at to visit area. Nice view of Lake Erie. Bathrooms and laundry need desperate upgrades. Transient site hook ups are a bit rough. Lots of mud and puddles when it rains. Not much to do in the area except to go wine tasting. Local campers can get loud on the weekends! Niagara falls is about 2 hours away. We might stay here again if traveling thru the area. The campground host will do anything he can to give you a pleasant stay.
We were looking for a get away near North Conway NH for the labor day weekend. I found this campground back in June on the internet. This campground became a KOA recently, so we figured that it must be OK (we could not find reviews about this campground). When we arrived it was about 7:00 pm and the office was closed and the CG gate was down. It was by chance that a camp worker showed us where the card key was so that we could open the gate. We had reserved a pull thru site for our trailer and after following the camp worker on very narrow and rough roads we arrived at our site. Our rig just fit on the site and my truck was at about a 30 degree angle pointing downhill, it was a bit tricky to un-hitch. After we went to bed that night we were waken up by the trucks on route 16 using their engine brakes all night. The next day we checked in and talked to the manager about the road noise. She basically told us that the noise was our opinion and that the constant traffic did not bother her, she was just plain rude!. There were other issues that we did not like about this CG and we were not the only guest at this CG the manager was rude to. Other guest left early because of poor CG conditions (we left early also). The CG did have plenty of stuff for kids to do. We would never recommend this CG and we will never stay there again. One last thing, this was our first experience at at KOA and we are not sure if we will visit another KOA CG.
We were looking for a weekend get away that was not too far to travel for us and a relative. We found Swanzey Lake Camping area thru an internet search. I could not find to many reviews but the web site looked OK and the lake area was inviting. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and the first impression of the campground was poor. The entrance to the campground had boat trailers parked all over the place, a disabled vehicle next to an old shed. The first appearance was a campground that was not kept up. After checking in we were given directions to our site. The roads in the campground were very narrow and rough, other campers had a difficult time navigation the turns. When we found our site we got out of the vehicle too look around. The site was a spot in the woods that had been filled with sandy fill and each time it rained our site (along with others turned to brown mud and the fill started to wash away. Trying to keep the sand out of the RV was a constant chore. The quiet hours were from 10:00 to about 8:00 am but they were not really enforced. This campground was mostly seasonals. As we walked around the campground we could often smell sewage, we could not determine where the smell was coming from. The web site states that they have a rec hall with games and a pool table, all there was is a porch with some games and a pool table that was in a tight area so it was difficult to use it. The only thing that was nice and kept up at this campground was the lake area.
The owners were friendly and the full timers nice to the weekenders. The campground was quiet and relaxing. They also own a beach about a mile away that you can bike too. Here are the drawbacks to the campground when we visited. The roads were very rough with low branches, at our site we had to use 75' of hose for the fresh water, the site was not level and a bit small. The owners (new) are working to make many improvement to the campground. I think that in a few years this will be a winner to visit on a regular basis. The owners might be able to contact the soil conservation office to help them with drainage problems. We will visit this campground again.
Our stay at Gray Homestead Campground was disappointing. We payed for a full hookup, we had no water pressure. So what we did is every morning we filled the 25 gallon RV tank, that alone took about 15 minutes and then use our water pump so we could have water. The sewer connections had no caps, and our line was on top of the ground and I used 2 rocks the to keep the joints in the line from coming apart. The RV sites were not level and very difficult to get into. The roads were very rough with low branches. We had some rain and the campground turned into a mud bath and most tent sites were in standing water. If you plan on camping here with kids be prepared, the campground does not have a store or anything for kids to do. There is not a common area so if you are a tenter and it is raining you are stuck in your tent. The bath house and shower were a sad story, there were 4 showers, 2 for the men and 2 for the women. If more than 1 shower was running you had nothing but a trickle, these were also pay showers so brings lots and lots of quarters to take a short shower. So if you are looking to park your RV in this part of Maine I would check out other campgrounds. We will not come back here and we do not recommend this campground.
Came here for a quick weekend get away. Campground immaculate, clean bathrooms and showers. Quiet campground, level sites, adequate water pressure. The only reason it does not get a 10 is because it had no camp store. We will camp here again and we recommend this campground.
What Can we say. Excellent COG, this is an adult only campground. So if you want peace and quiet this is the place to go. The bathrooms were immaculate the sites were level and very clean. this COG will become a regular stop for us, we are going back for a second stay this summer and we will book also for next year.
Campsites were small; water and sewer hookup only about 12 inches from each other, this is not sanitary. The sites were also not level. The short term sites were close to a very busy and noisy road. the CG is also on the flight path to the airport so be prepared to listen to planes all day and into the night. The staff was not friendly. This CG had some good looking tent sites but as far as an RV park I do not recommend it. The island is also a very expensive place to vacation. We will not come back here.
This campground was our first trip for 2007. We came here off season. The sites were level and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. it was a quiet campground, you could relax with the sounds of the "peepers", birds and the wind through the trees. We will stay here again.
